Bogota, Colombia

What a privilege it is for us to be here in Bogota hosted by some pretty amazing people! Our host picked us up from the airport on a misty night and took us to a lovely boutique hotel in the city.

This fascinating man named Carlos, whose Dad died when he was eight, went to work putting himself through school and being an exchange student to the US so that he could speak English. He now transports stone from all over the world to all over the world. We were amazed to hear that he has provided the stone for five of our Mormon Temples in South America. His wife in an executive with the biggest cell phone company in Columbia and they have two amazing young sons who were so polite, respectful and totally  engaging us in their conversations at 11 and 13. And one quite incredible sixteen year old daughter!

After breakfast we took a walk around the neighborhood. Pretty amazing!

Our host picked us up the next day and took us to his spectacular apartment!

This was their fireplace. And since our host is pretty much immersed in stone, below is a close-up of the fireplace “mantle” which is thousands of silver dollar-size travertine disks.

Their boys are about as obsessed with legos as many of our grandchildren!

From there we accompanied this wonderful family to our next adventure which was a beautiful farm about an hour and a half away on a rutty two lane highway, stopping to take pictures of this incredible city of seven million along the mountain passes.

Next comes “The Farm”……
