Crazy week!

We had so much fun with our St. George families this week! Next we went on our now historic horse ride after a great morning ride and then a spectacular ride up a Petra-like slot canyon before our wild run-over by Lady! After a week of laying pretty low, I can finally get in and out of the car in less than five minutes AND dad cut my cast removable cast down which helps on typing immensely ! I can use three fingers instead of only one! Saturday I went with Lindsay and Lenna to Ruby's funeral. Dad came with Kevan and they had a chance to talk as well. It was amazing to see all of Jesse and La Rue's three boys and four of their grandchildren! We haven't seen them except Roger and Merrilyn for maybe 20 years. Jack had major cancer five years ago and it was a miracle that he survived. Then his terrific wife Vicky got in a horrible car accident. They have the two boys in the picture plus another one who they have adopted from Vicky's sister who had some serious problems. Ned does construction and does beautiful custom wood work in Kentucky. His cute wife is an elementary school teacher and such a fine person! Roger and Merrilyn were so happy that they came from Salina for Eli and Julie's wedding because they got to spend the weekend with Ruby and Jesse before Ruby left! The guys with Lenna are Jesse on the right and Jesse's 95 year old brother Roy on the left! Today Dad and I left from BCRANC about 10:30 a.m. and drove to the Fish Haven and Bloomington Cemeteries where we visited many of the graves of our loved one who have passed through the veil. We saw some cousins (Aunt Vada'a son, and his daughter who has a child named after Saydi and another after Jonah)! We didn't linger long as it was cold, blustery and raining. We went full circle and went home via Logan, Grandma Ruthie and the Logan Cometary to contemplate Grampa Dean and the Eyre and Swenson families. We took Grandma to dinner at a Chinese Restaurant and read through the family histories she's been working on with her. She has done such a terrific of pulling this wonderful history together and adding delightful pictures which we will enjoy for many generations to come! There's still enough to keep her busy until September! I read part of Infidel to Dad on the way home. What a crazy life that poor girl has lived! What a world! Hope all is well wherever you are and that you had a great weekend! We're so happy to hear that Noah has been called to be the Young Men's President in their ward and at last...after two years...and with a new baby coming, Noah and Kristi will be able to go to church together! Congrats on a fabulous job on a wonderful calling Noah...and on surviving so beautifully Kristi! Great memories but time to go on huh?

Hi Linda,

It's Alissa Owen (formerly Alissa Redd). I was googling stuff about Joy School and came across your wonderful blog! I also read Shawni's. She's just like you-- articulate, well-written and inspiring. I haven't had time to read much of Saydi and Saren's yet, but I am sure their blogs are equally amazing and inspiring. You and your family are wonderful. When I read the things Shawni writes about you, I can't help but find myself nodding in agreement! You've always been so kind and gracious. In fact, I am sitting in my home office typing this and the most visible books on my shelf are yours! What wonderful reads (and re-reads.) I also noticed Richard is playing a lot of tennis! That's wonderful-- so is Brandon (my husband). He's still competing and doing well in fact(or at least as my four young boys under age six attest!) Our favorite pasttime is to watch Brandon play really good tennis. At the last tournament, there were ball boys for his match and about 60 people watching! He tries to play as many Open or 5.0 tournaments as he can. If Richard is interested, he'd love to go hit with him when you are in Salt Lake! And, I love that he is writing a book about tennis and life! We want to pre-order! Brandon hits with our boys twice a week (my parents now own a house with a tennis court). It's wonderful to watch them become like their dad! Well, thanks for all your continuing inspiration. And, my neighbors and I are excited for Joy School! Thanks Linda. If Richard wants to go hit have him call Brandon (792-9254 (Brandon's cell) or at home 942-1749.)

Love,

Alissa
