Hawaiian Reunion

We have a speech in Hawaii next week so we decided that it would be a perfect time to visit our little Hawaiin family the week before. When we got there, it was a delight to overlap a day with Noah and Kristi and their little crew and our baby, Charity! They had an extraordinary Thanksgiving together complete with burying the turkey in their garden with hot rocks for 13 hours. They said the meat literally fell off the bones. For the pictures of how they did it, check out Charity’s delightful blog post here.

We were so glad to get a day together and loved Jonah and Aja’s hospitality with putting up all 15 of us in their cozy little house for one night before the Noah and Kristi Eyres left. It was late when we got there and little cousins Lyla and Elsie were all tucked up in a little tent on the bed. We didn’t want to wake them up with a flash but it was too cute to miss!

Grandfather cuddled up and breathing in the fragrance of the flower lei that the kids had made for him, slept like a log!

The next day it was a quick look at the iPad before heading for the beach:

We had so much fun soaking in the sun and the kids at the beach!

I’m not quite sure he’s loving this:

But this one was! Kristi said that he had been pooping sand for days!

After a day in the sun, we headed for beach right by the airport where Noah wanted to try kite surfing, along with about a thousand other kite surfers at a beach near the airport.

Alas, the kite was broken so we just enjoyed watching those brave and very athletic souls before bidding them a fond farewell at the airport.

BUT luckily we still had Charity with us for one more day so we headed out for the great mountain of Hawaii, Haleakala which is the only place on earth that you can drive from sea level to just over 10,000 feet in 38 miles.

It was a spectacular ride with gorgeous panoramic views!

This little Po is at the most adorable age! What a little dumpling!

Counting what is under the water on this massive mountain it is taller than Mt. Everest. Ponder that! A great time was had by all!
