The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Finally! We have been able to stay in Utah for 12 whole days! Actually it isn’t the very best time to be here at Baliwood. We are absolutely NO signs of spring….yet!

We had a beautiful snow storm on Thursday and it looks as though there are three more storms on the way next week!

All the more reason to go back to the garage…again…to that mountain of “leftovers” we dragged out of the attic of our Augusta Way house at Christmas time The house has been sold but the buyers were kind enough to let us keep our “stuff” up there until the kids came home for Christmas. That day we shipped a ton of stuff off to the dump and the DI (thanks to Jared’s car) and laughed our heads off at some of the things we thought we would “treasure” in the future.

After many hours of sorting and sending several packages to Eva and Eldar who were our semi-adopted kids from Bulgaria and Ukraine and had sent us their precious things to store, I started on the stuff for our genetic kids.

Tal, who was on a mission when we went through the attic last time we tried eliminate and sort through things (thanks to Aja), went through hundreds of mementoes from his life while he was here for Christmas. What he couldn’t take home he packed up nicely for when he can. We still have to figure out where to keep all his beautiful letterman jackets from playing basketball at East High, BYU, SLCC and Weber State.

Jonah has a couple of plastic containers with various and sundry stuff as well as a suitcase full of his old hockey equipment (above and below).

Shawni has just one box and even though it doesn’t contain the really valuable treasures we seem to have sent to the DI inadvertently, it does contain some valuable things like her high school year books.

Saren has just one more box. We’ve been sending stuff home with her a little at a time when she comes and as it surfaces.

Josh has just one box with mostly old remote control cars in it:

Charity has a box too…. plus several on the other side of the garage that have been there for years.

The red boxes are Saydi’s:

Noah packed a ton of stuff into their van at Christmas and took it to their proper home in San Diego, including all he and Kristi’s wedding gifts. Because they went straight from their wedding to a student apartment and then to a 300 sq. foot bed-sit on the upper east side of NYC, now after about nine years of marriage they finally have a place to put their wedding gifts.

The prize winners for stuff that still has to be sorted when they come this summer were Eli and Julie who weren’t able to be with us at Christmas. They have the same problem with wedding gifts and even though they have a condo, there’s no storage there so we’ve got to help them figure out where to put it all. Pretty much everything you see in this picture (in the foreground) is theirs:

The biggest dilemma is trying to figure out what to do with all these negatives and slides that tell forty three years of our life story. We need all that to be digital and even though probably more than half are not great (we had pretty bad cameras in those days except for one good one that dad had for the slides), there will be some treasures. We’ll have to figure it out this summer when everyone’s together!

Here’s the plié that we need to load into the truck for Bear Lake so everyone can sort it out together.

July is only three months away. I am so excited…for more reasons than one!

Josh used a great service that digitized all his old negatives and slides. I would talk to him about it.

Thanks for working so hard on all this stuff - and for helping us make all the great memories that the stuff represents! Yeah for digital cameras and computers which will hopefully cut down on the physical stuff our kids store with us someday!
